As may be deduced from the names of the genera for Ebiara and Zebrawood (Berlinia and Microberlinia, respectively), the two woods are closely related. Both genera are placed in the Detarieae tribe, which is contained in the subfamily Caesalpinioideae, which is placed under the very broad Fabaceae (legume) family.
